A Qualitative Study on the Experience of the Mental Health Promotion Facilities for the Mental Disabilities : Focusing on Mental Hospital, Mental Health & Welfare Center, Psychiatric Rehabilitation Facilities

Abstract

|
The purpose of this study was examined to the content and meaning of how mentally disabled people experience the various mental health promotion facilities(Mental Hospital, Mental Health & Welfare Center, Psychiatric rehabilitation facilities) in their entire lives. A generic qualitative study was conducted on a total of 14 mentally disabled people, and as a result, a total of 4 themes, 18 sub-themes, and 55 meaning units were analyzed.
The contexts and meanings experienced by mentally disabled people in mental health promotio facilities were as follows. Mental Hospital : ¡®struggle to survive¡¯, Mental Health & Welfare Center : ¡®endure a monotonous daily life¡¯, Psychiatric Rehabilitation Facilities : ¡®feel alive¡¯, ¡®learn to live alone¡¯.
Based on these findings, suggestions were discussed for successful community-oriented mental health policies, improvement of quality of life and promotion of independent life for the mentally disabled.
